Re-homing your pet

Are you trying to re-home your pet due to changes in circumstances?

The SPCA will try to assist you as best we can to help you find a safe and suitable home for your pet, however, our resources are limited, and there are several options that you can explore prior to contacting us:

You could try posting an advert on notice boards in

  • vet clinics
  • shop windows
  • shopping centres
  • news papers(some print free adds such as the Bay Trader)
  • Trade me
  • Pets on the Net

Ask all of your friends and acquaintances to ask around to see if anybody is looking to adopt an
animal. Of course, you must be very careful as to whom you re-home your animals to and that they
are going to an appropriate home.

You can leave your name and number and animal details with us so that we may be able to suggest
a suitable person to adopt your pet

If you have tried all of our suggestions yet have still been unable to re-home your animal, and we can see that you have made contact with us previously, if room becomes available we may be able to give your pet priority, and we may be able to accept it at that time.

If your pet is accepted by the SPCA you will be required to sign the animal over to the SPCA, and may be required to pay a sign over fee which is used to help (not fully cover) the cost to the branch for the food and care the animal requires.   Please be aware that by signing the animal over to the SPCA you relinquish all rights and title to the animal above and agree to the Tauranga SPCA re-homing or humanely destroying the said animal if considered necessary..

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us.

Good luck with re-homing your pet and best wishes from us all at the Tauranga SPCA
